On October the 28th Ghorab School was inaugurated
On October the 28th 2013, Comitato Arghosha inaugurated its 9th school building in Ghorab Valley. Marco was representing the Committee at the ceremony, which was attended by the Governor of Saighan district, Omar Khan, the director of Shuhada, Abdul Rauf Naveed, and the deputy Governor of Bamiyan Province, Asif Mubaliq. The School adds a bigger structure of 7 classrooms to the previous one of 5 classrooms built by Care International. The new building complex hosts 350 children: 250 boys and 100 girls. It stands at 2900m (9,000 feet) and we could tell that autumn was progressing as at the end of the inauguration we were blessed with a sprinkle of white snow!
The school is in Saighan district of Bamiyan province. It is a pretty remote area, at the foot of Aqrabat pass (3500 m) and the main village of the area is situated 47 km far from Bamiyan city and 25 km from Saighan. It is therefore essential that the school helps to make the local population self sufficient in terms of educTION as none of the children can commute daily from Ghorab to the two main town centres of Bamiyan and Saighan.
Marco gets congratulated by Saighan District Governor Omar Khan. He dresses with a chapan which was donated to him by the villagers of Ghorab.
Marco cuts the ribbon together with the Deputy Governor of Bamiyan province Asif Mubaliq. On his right Abdul Rauf Naveed, director of Shuhada and on his left Eng Gholam Hussein, director of Shuhada in Bamiyan province.
After the inauguration a banquet takes place at the Mosque of the biggest village of Ghorab Valley. The school serves a community of about 700 families, ie over 4,000 people. The new school will create a job opportunity for further 6 teachers that will be added to the present 9. Our organisation has also provided the funding of a new roof to the old building made by Care International.
